A Tribute to a Grand Dog

Shiloh, CDX, CGC

         Shiloh Does Agility

Shiloh was a once in a lifetime dog. He was whelped here in my kennel. A son of the lovely Kemarok Teneka by Ch Abraxas Quasar of Langenau. I picked him very early to be my house dog and companion. That he was in every sense of the word. We went everywhere together. I called him King of the Road because of his love for the Van. The bed in the back was his throne.

He earned his CD then on to earn his CDX title. Next came his CGC. We then decided to go for an Agility title. He received his first leg in the fall of 1996. I planned to finish him the following spring. But that was not to be. On his 8th birthday, February 11, 1997 he was in magnificent condition. I thought he looked so great that he could probably jump for another year. Within a matter of weeks I noticed a very slight limp in his right front leg. All jumping stopped. But the limp kept getting worse so off to the vet we went. We did everything we could think of. X-Rays, acupuncture, chiropractor, homeopathic treatments. Nothing helped. My last resort was a trip to the UofM where he was finally diagnosed as having bone cancer.

The prognosis was poor. Amputation was not an option I would accept. It would give him "maybe" 6 months. I took him home and on July 16 I held him in my arms for the last time as I whispered in his ear to wait for me at the bridge. As the silver needle released him from pain he sunk deep in my arms. Until we meet again.

The melody lingers on. Like father like son. A legacy and a new beginning. . Shiloh at 5 years.

Life is but a whisper on the wind

Cherish each moment

Hold gently the memory.
